Emotional. Meaningful. A little bit edgy. I’m not about trying to replicate something that someone else has done, but I AM about finding who you really are and letting that come through in your images. That’s not planned or posed…it happens organically and it looks completely different for everyone that I work with. I love letting moments happen, and I love making moments happen. That allows for your shoot to look just like YOU.
My feet definitely stay moving, but I currently have two places I consider my home base. Bend, Oregon + Dallas, Texas. I moved to Bend in January 2014 to complete my masters degree. I finished--YAY! But once I moved (and got married to the coolest guy ever), I began taking on a lot more travel work. This little gig has transformed my life into that of a professional traveler. In the past year I’ve shot in Italy, Paris, Washington, Greece, NYC, Chicago, England--and of course Texas & Oregon. SO YEAH. I’m up for literally anything or anywhere regardless of where my “base” is.
I shot my first wedding in 2009--bless their hearts for hiring a little 19-year-old college girl. But I was totally hooked. I went full time in 2013, and now I've shot 150+ weddings.
OR–I’m so not photogenic–my fiancé totally hates pictures–we’re not as cool as your other couples!–and other complete and total bullshiz. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that EVERYONE says this to me. It’s so completely normal to be nervous in front of the camera. But the good news is, that’s on me! I goof around and make a fool of myself and we dart from place to place to get the perfect angle or light. Shooting is FUN. It’s not stiff, and you won’t feel as awkward as you think you will. Pinky promise.
The answer is 100% yep. Half of my weddings this year are in places I’ve never even been before. That’s been my dream from the beginning, and I love that people trust me enough to fly across the country for them. It’s so freaking fun. I love that I get weird looks from grandmas who are like, “They flew you in from WHERE?” It the most flattering thing in the world to be brought along on a journey like that. I always arrive a day or two before your wedding, and I’ll usually hang out until the day after. I get to know your family by their first names, and I am always so inspired to be shooting somewhere completely new. Win win win win win.
I like you too! If you’re in Oregon, this is super easy. We’ll get coffee and I’ll oooh and aaah over your ring and all your super-awesome wedding plans. If you’re somewhere else or want to meet/chat RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND, call me! Skype me! Email me! I love that in this day and age “meeting” someone looks soo different than it used to. Let’s get to know each other!
I L-O-V-E Canon, but if you ask me to sell you on it, that ain't for me. I'm a photographer because I'm an artist, not because I'm a techie. I started with Canon, and I doubt I will ever, ever change. I shoot with a 5D Mark III and prime, L-series lenses. (The 35mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.2 my always-and-forever favorites.) I cull with Photo Mechanic and edit with Lightroom. I make my own presets (and you should too!!) -- if you are curious about anything else, just ask!
Yep yep yep. Definitely. I've got a back up camera body (and lenses and batteries), back up hard drives, AND I back up the images in camera while I’m shooting. You are totally covered.
If you want one, it's yours! My husband is my trustiest second shooter--he comes with me whenever he can. If he's booked, I call on close, trusted photog friends to fill in.
Yes yes yes. These are some of my FAVORITE things to do. If you're a photographer and interested in learning from me, hit me up. I LOVE teaching, and I custom-create a little workshop day just for you. It doesn't matter what level you are in your business. I've worked with photographers who were JUST starting out, and I've worked with photographers who've been shooting for a couple of years. Your session is custom tailored to your desires and needs. We'll meet up and chat business/shooting/etc., I'll walk you through the ways I shoot as we photograph a real-life couple, and then you get some headshots from yours truly. It's the most fun ever.
I CAN’T WAIT EITHER!! The absolutely longest you’ll have to wait to see your wedding images is 8-10 weeks. That’s during the super duper high peak of wedding season. For shoots, the longest wait you’ll have is 4 weeks. Scout’s honor.
